An open letter to Zipcar: Your ad campaign lacks balls

Dear Zipcar, as you know, I have been a happy member for years. The concept simply makes a lot of sense, so please make every effort to get the word out. I know you believe your marketing to be edgy. You do get points for trying, but in these times, this is not enough. Please understand that we are at war. This has been done before. Here is how. Keep in mind who actually won that conflict. There is something to be said for boldness. Here is what a version for our times -mutatis mutandis – might look like.

Are you riding with Osama?

It happens to be true, too. The link is much clearer than the one between Hitler and driving ever was. It is not too much of a stretch to suggest that if you ride alone, you are in fact effectively riding with Osama. Recent events hint at even more drastic connections. Reducing the consumption of fossil fuels reduces the need to rely on nuclear energy. Anyway. The point is that if you want to keep winning, please grow a pair. You’re welcome. Sincerely, Pascal

Update 05/02/2011: As not everyone lacks boldness and courage, I guess you are now just riding alone when you ride alone. Never mind.

Update 05/02/2012: Apparently, I was not the only one who had this idea. I am *shocked*.
